The Quiet Repair Shop

Repair shops are among the few places where an object arrives with its history still attached. The worn heel reveals a gait, the frayed cable a favourite reading chair and the polished switch a habit repeated each evening. A competent repairer reads these marks without sentimentality. The task is to preserve what remains sound, replace only what has failed and return the object without disguising the fact that it has been used.
