The Sneeboer Pointed Spade’s narrow, sharpened blade enters difficult soil with less force than a broad contractor’s tool. It is equally useful for planting, dividing perennials, edging, and working between established roots. The shape encourages precision rather than excavation by brute strength, while the materials make care and eventual inheritance plausible.

The blade is hand-forged from stainless steel, with a pointed profile and small treads for the boot. A solid ash handle supplies spring and warmth, secured through a traditional socket. Polished steel sheds soil readily and resists corrosion, while the narrow blade reduces the plug lifted at each stroke. The proportions keep hands and feet aligned over the work.

This is not the fastest tool for moving a mound of loose material, and the point should not be levered against immovable stone. Ash benefits from dry storage and occasional oil; stainless steel still deserves cleaning. In compacted beds, however, the spade finds a path with less disturbance, cuts roots cleanly, and reaches planting depth without requiring an oversized hole.

Garden tools often trade on rustic appearance while using indifferent steel and disposable handles. Sneeboer’s spade earns its traditional manner through performance. The forging, socket, and timber each serve the force applied by body and soil. Choose it for cultivated ground and deliberate work, keep the edge keen, and expect the tool to become more familiar rather than less capable with age.
