The Tripp Trapp remains the high chair because it behaves like furniture rather than a plastic interruption. Peter Opsvik’s design brings the child to the table, which is the whole idea, and then keeps adjusting as the child grows. Its genius is not nostalgia but continuity: one chair through years of meals, homework, snacks and crumbs. Children’s objects often look temporary. This one has the good manners to stay.

Bugaboo Giraffe
Bugaboo’s Giraffe is the cleaner, more contemporary high-chair proposition. It adjusts quickly, looks light in a room and avoids the gear-room feeling that often follows children into the dining area. The chair has a little less heirloom romance than the Tripp Trapp but more immediate ease. It suits homes where the kitchen is also the living room and every object has to justify being visible.

Lalo The Chair
