Latex Pillow from Saatva

The Saatva Latex Pillow resolves the familiar conflict between support and softness without resorting to a dense slab of foam. The head settles into a light outer layer, while a shredded natural-latex core prevents the pillow from collapsing through the night. It feels immediately comfortable, but its more important virtue is that it continues to hold a useful shape after the first few minutes.

The construction is straightforward and separable. An organic cotton cover surrounds a removable microdenier fill layer, which in turn contains the shredded latex core. Saatva offers a standard loft of roughly four to five inches and a high loft of six to seven inches. The first suits many stomach and back sleepers, while the latter gives side sleepers more space between shoulder and head.

The cover and outer fill layer can be machine washed, an important advantage for something used every night; the latex core itself should not be washed. The pillow is springier than down and less moldable for sleepers who like to fold or bunch their pillow. It is also substantial in size and price. In exchange, it breathes well, rebounds quickly, and avoids the gradual flattening that makes inexpensive fiber pillows false economies.

Pillow choice remains personal, but the Saatva makes an unusually convincing general case. Its layers have distinct jobs, routine cleaning is manageable, and two lofts address the most consequential difference between sleepers. It does not imitate a hotel pillow or promise corrective therapy. It simply combines a soft surface with durable support, night after night. For most beds, that is the useful definition of best.
